It’s a rainyickycoldgross day today in M’ssippi. The kind of day where you just want to curl up on the couch with a book {Kindle for me…on book 4 of the Outlander series…anyone read that series? – super entertaining but a little gratuitous} or a magazine {the new Southern Living is calling my name} with a cup of tea {peppermint for me} and nap between chapters. But alas, it’s a work day and work I must!
Days like today make me long for the sunny days when I get to see this on my kitchen cabinets for most of the day:
See how the shadows look like a reflection off water? Well, there isn’t a drop of water in sight… Instead it’s the light coming through our original single pane glass windows. I LOVE it.
Even though the windows are definitely not energy efficient, are drafty, and many need work, the shadows they cast make me happy.
Many panes have been replaced, but there are still several windows with the original glass in place. I love old houses!
Now if only we could get a sunny day here…

We had a snowy and gloomy day today as well. As I was walking home from some errands this evening the sun popped out from behind the clouds. I’m hoping that its here to stay… atleast for a day or two. I wish our home still had the original panes. Sunlight is just gorgeous when streaming through the old imperfect glass.
God, I love your kitchen.
So pretty. I love antique panes of glass—and if my old house were not in chilly NE I would to keep the old windows!
I wouldn’t fret the old windows for being non-energy efficient. Proper window coverings (pillow blinds, quilt style coverings, etc) really make a big big difference.
And that glass that throws the light around like you love so much… lets more solar energy through than any new window!
I found your pretty blog today on “Its Great to Be Home,” and I am so glad I did! I LOVE old homes also. My idea of heaven was visiting either of my grandma’s homes because they had funky spaces, terrific windows, and were different from other houses. Now my husband and I live in an old house, where different doors stick depending on the seasons and there are still odd things to unearth in the corner of the attics. Your blog has taken me back to a wonderful place, and I can’t wait to visit again!
