Five million points to anyone who knows the movie reference this post’s title is making! One of my all-time favorite movies…yes, you may judge my odd sense of humor.
Sorry {again!!!} for being so silent over here. Things are still pretty unfinished/disastrous in our house and I don’t feel like I can post any pictures! I was also MIA this weekend while I took a road trip to Dallas to visit family and hit up IKEA. Yes, a bit of a trek, but worth it too meet a baby cousin, hang with Husband’s fam, and get some window coverings for our windows….sheets just aren’t cutting it anymore.
More on that later.
Anyway, I have made a little progress in the design arena over the last few weeks: kitchen stools! I knew I wanted something without a back so the stools could kind of hide in the background since it’s a small space. I’d been thinking about what I wanted for quite awhile but hadn’t found anything just right and for a good price. If you watch the Wists on my site, you’ve seen a few stools grace the scrolling wishlist, like…
…a pair of knock-off ghost stools so I could make some cushions and recreate Anna Kohler’s fabulous stools in February’s Renovation Style… {FYI – Camila at High-Heeled Foot in the Door recently purchased these for her newly spruced up kitchen and they look so great!}
…and any one of the million of industrial/schoolhouse/drafting stools seen everywhere these days (yes I’m a design lemming)…
When my mom was in town helping with house stuff, we were talking about just biting the bullet and getting something. The ghost stools seemed just a bit too modern, especially since they’re so close to my shield back dining chairs in the “dining nook”…and I really liked the Crate & Barrel Turner bar stools but couldn’t stomach $229/stool price tag (ugh $700 plus shipping for bar stools?!).
We did some searching for other stools, and glory glory I stumbled across Wisteria’s Cooper Bar Stools during their big furniture sale ($129/stool instead of the usual $159/stool)…and that was that, ordered right then and there…
No lie, they arrived in two days, and look how cute they are all lined up!
They’re a great size and just fit so well in the kitchen…
I just love them!! Once we get some paint on the walls and new fabric for the dining chairs, this kitchen is going to be looking sharp!
What do you think? Did I make the right choice in going for the screwtop stools instead of the ghost chairs? Think I need a fourth?
Here’s a YouTube of the post title reference…just makes me giggle (and possibly sing along)…

I was torn on them at first. Part of me wanted to say, they look a bit small — but I think anything more would have been too much for the space — now that your dining room table is in. Their legginess works with the beefiness of the kitchen counter legs. And great deal on them too, compared to the C&B ones!
Laura – I hear ya! When I got them I totally did the step-back-and-pause-deep-in-thought thing: “Do I need a fourth? Are they overwhelmed by the space? Too petite?” Then walk back to them and rearrange and spin the seats higher and pause and think some more. I may still get a fourth, but for now I’m satisfied!
I think they work well! The ghost ones might have been a bit too modern, while these fit right in. I agree maybe a 4th would be nice, but I’d not make it a priority as it looks fine as is.
I think the set of three looks perfect! Wisteria is so great…I forget about them all the time and once I finally land on their site, I find myself changing the ideas in my head completely! What a great find.
I love them! Great choice. I especially love them with the floor. So nice!
Waiting for Guffman??????
LOVE THEM!! And love the house renovation pics! You’re doing such a great job! Let’s do lunch sometime.
We watched this with your parents at the Bay House! I immediately knew the reference!
By “this,” I mean Waiting for Guffman.
Ding ding ding!
Oh how great! I have been eyeing these, are they comfortable? It looks fabulous!
Hi Michelle – Thanks for stopping by! They’re about as comfortably as you’d expect for a metal seat – I wouldn’t suggest sitting on one of the stools for hours and hours, but it’s pretty comfy. I like how it spins.
The seat is about 12″ in diameter so I wouldn’t recommend if you expect a lot of larger folks would be using them. Hope this helps!
Really, really like them – they really show off the depth of colors in the hardwood floors!
I actually like the stools better than your original choice of the Crate & Barrel Turner stool. It still has the industrial look you were going for, but the tripod-style leg is more attractive and the darker color is more classic. In all, a much more timeless look. And I agree that they look fabulous with the wood floors!
And by the way, I love, love, love your blog. I’ve loved seeing the progress and reading about your decision process as you renovated. Very impressive!
I like them! I agree that the ghost stools would’ve seemed a little too mod next to your other chairs. And the three look perfect in my opinion; four could be too crowded. Your floors look great, and I’m obsessed with your cowhide rug, of course.
It’s so fun watching your space come along! I can’t wait to see it painted.
3 stools only….it’s ‘working’ !!
your renovation is completely stunning. love the drafting stools.
