{the renovation} microwave!

I was sooooo excited when our microwave (finally) arrived about a week and a half ago.  It was the last appliance we were waiting on and the most important given that cooking wasn’t high on my list at the time with all the chaos in the house.  With fingers crossed, I unboxed the shiny little thing and went to put it in its hole…

the microwave hole waiting for the microwave!

…it hit the side of the divider.  Boo.  The hole itself was large enough for the microwave, but some trim pieces that were put on later made it about 1/2″ to narrow!

So back came our great carpenters, and they were able to move the cookbook divider over a bit…

the cookbook divider nudged over

…and then the painters came back to touch it up and fix some dings in some other places.  And now the microwave fits!

now time to put those cookbooks in place and some baskets above! (and take the protective plastic off :) )

I LOVE the microwave in its own little home – off the counter and out of the way, and not a focal point above the range like I’ve had in every other kitchen!

Have you ever had any “almosts” with contracted work?  Did the contractor graciously come back and fix it?

I’m curious if the microwave gets proper ventilation in its little cubby. It looks quite nice, and I’m assuming the builders knew what they were doing, but it’s something that I would be concerned about. Can’t wait to see the final product!

I thought about the same, but there’s actually a good bit of open space to the sides, above and below the microwave – the trim pieces hide the gaps a bit – so it still gets good air circulation. But we may still cut a hole in the side by the fridge or above the microwave if we find it’s under stress or anything. The builders said they’ve done it like this a few times and didn’t see any issues with it!

That micro is cute! I can’t believe I just wrote that, but it’s really attractive!

I think so many of us are living vicariously through you right now that we’re all freaking out about how close you are to having “after” pictures.

I thought the same thing when I found it online: “wow that’s actually a good looking microwave!” I promise I’ll get some good afters up soon, it’s still pretty much disaster zone as we tackle painting…how I wish we could have finished all this before we moved in!!!…

Hey!!! Ok, wait…you moved to Vburg from DC? Are you in the midst of depression/culture shock? I’m SO SORRY!!! I would love to meet up anytime, although I’m 6.5 months prego so I wouldn’t say I’m very fun right now! Definitely not weird/stalkerish. I am obsessed with home renovation so I am loving your blog! Where did y’all buy a house? It is looking awesome! Email me at leslierowesadler@bellsouth.net and we can plan a time to meet up!
