One of the biggest changes we made to our little cottage was closing in the side porch. I still am unsure why the house had two “front doors”: one leading to a largely useless 8′x11′ entry room, and the other leading directly into the main living area. For the size of the house – around 1100 square feet – the entry room was space waste, and closing in the side porch would give us valuable space for very little cash.
Wanna see it?! Ta da!!!
Need a reminder of what it used to look like?
You’ll notice we also had the overgrown bushes pulled out.
Now obligatory pictures from multiple angles:
Here are a few shots from the inside to show how the space is now opened up:
This whole room will be the kitchen/dining/entry:
So there it is, the porch closed in! Doing this has totally transformed the space. I can’t wait to see the drywall hung and can lights in…and trim up…and kitchen cabinets in place…and floors refinished…

What an improvement! I can’t believe how seamless the front wall looks! That’s pretty impressive work.
What a great change- closing off the second door was the perfect idea!
