Great news!!! We got approval from the Architectural Review Board to close in our side porch!!! The house will now match the “sister house” next door and add about 100 square feet to our teeny tiny cottage. And it will make our entry/living/dining/kitchen area much more logical and spacious! They got started ripping out the walls yesterday, and I can’t wait to see it closed in when we get home from vacation!
I don’t have too many super exciting pictures from Day Nine of the renovation, other than progress on the exterior of the house. After seeing it totally opened up in the earlier stages, it’s nice to see siding back on the walls!
They re-used a lot of the old siding, but some of it had to be tossed. We went with an economical pine siding, which matches the old siding really well.
They’re making lots of quick progress!
The siding went back up on the side of the house where the floors and walls had been removed because of all the rot:
They also finished cutting the boards on the porch so they’re all the same length:
And then inside they did some more framing:
In the pic above, it’s taken from inside the second bathroom, looking through the future closet door into the office. The closet will be fairly shallow, only 1’7″ deep, but a closet nonetheless! Although the office will only be 8′x7′, it could still constitute for a bedroom because of the closet.
That’s that. Many more exciting pics to come – you would not believe how it looks all opened up!

Excited to see the interiors!
P.S. Totally random but…while you’ve got electricians there – make sure to lightning protect EVERYTHING! We were hit by laightning two days ago and I cannot believe the electrical damage it has caused! Everythign was outdated so nothing was surge protected – we lost the A/C unit and all phone lines (+ electricty). Many thousands of dollars later (a two very sweaty days…) we are installing new lines + surge protectors oon everything. Highly recommended. We’re not in a lightning prone area but it happened to us…
