Oh my goodnight! My first blog award!!!

A huge shout out to JourneyChic for honoring me with the Honest Scrap Award. I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl! Thank you sooooo much! I must say I was very surprised to be in the ranks of my daily reads Brooklyn Limestone, everything LEB, and High-Heeled Foot in the Door!
Here are the rules I must follow, upon receiving this award:
- Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award.
- Share “10 Honest Things” about myself.
- Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
- Tell those 7 people they’ve been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.
10 Honest Things About Me
- When I was little, the only way my mom could get me to wear a dress and tights was if I could wear my “boy shoes” (black hi-tops). Can you say tomboy?
- I walked on to my college soccer team the spring of my freshman year, where I had the amazing opportunity to play Division 1 soccer with some of the best players in the country. Although I sat the bench big time, I got some great Nike gear and made wonderful friends on the team.
- I love french fries and could eat them at every meal (but my waistline wouldn’t be too happy about that!).
- Husband and I met at a summer camp when we were 13! We wrote letters (which we both still have), talked on Instant Messenger (when it was in its infancy), and saw each other every year for 2 weeks at camp. We didn’t date until a year after college when we were both living in DC, and then it was 6 months of dating, 9 months of engagement, and now almost 3 1/2 years of marriage! I definitely wrote in my journal at age 13 that I was going to marry him, but never truly thought it would happen!
- I think Diet Dr. Pepper is a nectar of the gods.
- I am utterly, completely, and totally obsessed with J.Crew.
- One of the most common phrases to come out of my mouth is, “I’ve got an idea!” It’s usually design-related, not really something I plan or actually want to execute, and it usually makes Husband shudder.
- My most favorite weekend activity is to sit on the porch and drink coffee (if morning) or wine (if evening) with a good book or magazine.
- I have the most wonderful, loving, and fun family in the world!
- I am the queen of good intentions but have trouble finishing projects. I think it’s a combo of: too little time + too many ideas + genetics.
So that’s a little bit about me! Now for me to pass on the award to 7 fun, brilliant and inspiring design bloggies:
- Pure Style Home
- Bryn Alexandra
- Caitlin Creer Interiors
- Discover: Interior Design
- Good Bones Great Pieces
- Small & Chic in C’ville
- Urban Nest
Each of these blogs have been amazing finds, and inspire new projects and ideas in me everyday!

#4 has got to be one of the cutest how-we-met stories ever!
I can totally related to #6 and #10.
Really cool about walking on to the DI soccer team! What a feat. A guy I knew from Wake walked onto our basketball team (back when we were really good), rode the bench, but ended up writing a book called Walk On: Life From the End of the Bench and is now a motivational speaker! Seems like it’s always such a great experience, no matter if you get a lot of playing time or not. (obsessed with sports, much, Kara?)
Moving along – I, too, loved how you and your husband met… such an adorable story!
Oh, and sitting on your cute porch with your re-done backyard (or at your parents’ great house) sounds just perfect… no wonder it’s your favorite weekend activity!
Kara – Oh I could relate to him…I was waaaaay at the end of the bench.
It was super fun though! Especially beating Wake in the NCAA tournament first round one year…
(sorry had to make that jab!)
Congratulations!
I love your fun facts . . especially #4 of course, even though I already knew.
Aw, congrats! I’m sure there are many more awards to come
I love the story about how you met your husband! That is awesome. Also, it is really impressive that you played D1 soccer!
I’m with everyone else, the story on how you met your husband is seriously the cutest thing I have ever heard!!
Oh my goodness – what a wonderful story about you & your hubby!!!!!
loved your “honest” things- made me laugh & totally agree with a lot of them!
Thanks SO SO much for indcluding me!!!!
xoxoxo
Thanks for all the sweet comments!
C-razy how my husband and I ended up together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We call it the “Kanakuk Kurse” (Kanakuk is the summer camp where we met) – people who went there or were counselors there seem to have a unbelievably high marriage rate!
So many possible projects, so few rooms! Argh!!
I love what you’re going to do with the desk. Really loving grey right now.
So glad to discover your blog, thanks to Small &Chic Cville!
Love the gray paint on the desk. Are you willing to share the color?
Kate – I wish I knew the color! I grabbed the pic from knack studio’s flikr stream. I just emailed her for the color, so if she responds I’ll be sure to let you know! I’m curious myself!!!
